Activities

Romsdalen is an Eldorado for those interested in nature with both short and long mountain walks, sights and activity parks. We also have several activities for the whole family at the campsite.

Mountain hikes

The county of Rauma can offer an eldorado of mountain hikes. Everything from demanding to easy hikes. You may want to buy a map, or a book with descriptions and maps. We will help with suggestions, advice and descriptions. For the most demanding trips we recommend a guide.

The most popular trip is the Romsdalseggen. You can choose between the normal route or the family route. The Romsdalseggen is a wonderful experience with great views. This is a demanding and long hike. The average time is 7-9 hours. When you walk over “Eggen” you can look down at Mjelva Camping. You can start this hike from Åndalsnes, but it is most common to start from Venjedalen (Vengedalen) and Venjedalssetra and then hike towards Åndalsnes.

For suggestions on mountain hikes visit Romsdal.com and the book: Mountain hikes in Romsdal.

Romsdalsgondolen

From the center of Åndalsnes you can take the Romsdals gondola up to the city mountain Nesaksla 708 m above sea level. At Nesaksla you get fantastic views, adapted conditions for the disabled, small hiking trails and Eggen restaurant. Simply a great experience. Nesaksla is also part of Romsdalseggen and is the last stop before the descent towards Åndalsnes. For more information about Romsdalsgondolen, check out the site romsdalen.no.

“Rampestreken” (“The Mischief”)

This viewpoint is absolutely wonderful. You come to this viewpoint and “Romsdalstrappa” (“the Romsdal Staircase”) as you walk up to Nesaksla or come down from the Romsdalseggen. The starting point is at the foot of Nesaksla. Nesaksla is 715 m.o.h. From here you can look down on Åndalsnes. Great views to the neighbouring mountains and the fjord.

Via Ferrata/ Romsdalsstigen

Romsdalsstigen is in the same area. It has 2 routes: "Intro Wall" (about 3-4 hours) and "Vestveggen" (about 5-6 hours). For more information go to the Norsk Tindesenter's pages.

Inside the Tindesenteret there is a climbing and roaring wall, a museum and the restaurant “Spiret”.

Trollveggen

The Troll Wall has Europe's highest vertical cliff. The plunge amounts to approx. 1000 m and it is about 1750 m from the bottom of the valley to the top of the wall. The Troll Wall is part of the Trolltindene which is a fantastic sight with all its peaks.

Trollstigen

Mjelva Camping is only 30 min away from the top of the famous Trollstigen. This spectacular road on county road 63 was opened in 1936. Trollstigveien has 11 turns and a rise of 1:12. Trollstigen is a great starting point for mountain hikes such as:

“Trollveggen”, “Trolltindene”, “Mannen”, “Bispen” og «Kongen»

You pass through Trollstigen on your way to Valldal and Geiranger.

Fishing

Try the fishing luck on the Romsdalsfjord. We pass on a guided fishing trip to a fisherman with his own boat. He knows the fjord well and knows about the best fishing spots.

You can also do fjord fishing from land. We are helpful in showing you where you can stand.

Fishing in the Rauma River. From 2021 you can fish in the Rauma river. You must then buy a fishing license. Fishing licenses can be purchased at Elveguiden.no
